View from the window, 2021
acrylic on canvas, 130×100 cm
From the window of my room I can see a piece of the Baltic Sea but what I like most is to sit down with my morning coffee and observe the bustling business center of Gdansk. Especially in winter, when those modern, glass buildings are beautifully lit.
The Oliwa campus of the University of Gdansk, with its modern buildings, fits in perfectly with the architecture of the place. Looking at the campus from a bird’s eye view, we start with the Faculty of Social Sciences, which was put into operation in 2008, then the Main Library building, which houses more than 500,000 books and journals, looks beautiful. Next is the Department of Biology with the Museum of Inclusion in Amber and the skeleton of the common fin whale, commonly known as the finworm. In the depth we see the building of the Department of Chemistry. Adjacent to it stands the building of the Inter-University Faculty of Biotechnology and the Faculty of Mathematics Physics and Computer Science, which house modern scientific and research laboratories. The string of buildings is completed by the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of History. The circle, meanwhile, closes with the central administration building and the Faculty of Law and Administration. In the central part is located the EcoPark, which houses a unique exhibition of plants of rare and endangered species native to the Pomeranian region.
To the left, the Campus is complemented by the Olivia Business Center with its beautifully lit, slender Olivia Star, which offers a magnificent view of the sea, the Tri-City and, of course, the University of Gdansk Campus.
