Viñedo Means Vineyard, 2020
acrylic on canvas, 130 × 100 cm
“On the second day of our visit to Cádiz, we go to Jerez where there is a vineyard. In Spanish, a vineyard is a “viñedo.” On several gently sloping acres, fields of vines stretch out, and in a dark cellar the wine is stored in neatly arranged barrels. It needs peace and quiet.
To be in Spain and not to visit a vineyard is like going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower. Here the smallest detail is important – soil, variety of grape, sun, juicy grapes, and peace. Their combination alone allows work and passion to bear fruit. Wine.
There is a saying, the author of which I do not know, but I think that many would sign up to it: “There are five causes to drink wine: the arrival of guests, present and past longing, the goodness of wine itself, and any other reason at all.
That day, the hours passed one by one with their calm rhythm in the Andalusian sun.”
